Congress is beginning discussions on the 2012 budget and with targets beginning $47 billion below the current year, many programs of importance to communities are in jeopardy of deep reductions or elimination. The Community Development Block Grant is one of those.
Thanks to your efforts, Senators Levin and Stabenow have already signed on to a "Dear Colleague" letter in the Senate urging support for CDBG. Now is the time for you to contact your congressional representative and urge them to sign on to a similar letter being offered by Congressman Robert Brady of Pennsylvania (see attachment below).
The League will continue our work with our federal partners and congressional delegation. However, our best weapon remains our members and their ability to “tell their stories” to their congressional representatives about how CDBG and other federal programs have worked to improve quality of life for residents in their communities.
