This afternoon HBs 4920-4924, bills that give local prosecutors the ability to prosecute "super drunk" offenses, passed unanimously from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

In October of 2009 the "super drunk" driving laws became effective. This legislation increased the penalty for operating while intoxicated from 93 days to 180 days and the fine to a maximum of $700 if blood alcohol content is .17 or higher.

Municipal attorneys currently do not have the authority to prosecute offenses with penalties greater than 93 days, so these bills will give that authority.

The legislation now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
