The House Regulatory Reform committee today passed out SB 100.  This legislation fixes problems in the law regarding the Sunday morning liquor sales.  Remembering back to last year, the Legisalture passed and the Governor signed legislation to allow for Sunday morning liqiuor licences.  The League was in favor of the legislation, as long as it allowed locals to opt-out of the Sunday morning sales.  The intent of the legislation was to do just that.

When the bill was signed, some people pointed out that there were technical problems in the law that could be interpreted to only allow for all day Sunday opt-outs.  The Liquor Control Commission interpreted the law to allow locals to opt-out of Sunday morning only or all day Sunday, but clean-up language was necessary.  SB 100 fixes the glitches in the current law and ensures that the law matches the intentions of the leiglsaiton passed last year.

The Michigan Municipal League indicated support in committee.
