As the lame duck legislative session moved into full swing yesterday, municipal waste water infrastructure needs took center stage. League-supported initiatives to promote brownfield site clean-ups and invest in municipal sewer projects formed the core of a package of bills that moved out of the House yesterday afternoon with overwhelming support. Senate Bills 437, 1345-1349, 1442 & 1443 and their House Bill counterparts, HB 6358-6363 and 6416-6417 moved out of the House committee on New Economy and Quality of Life Wednesday morning, with the House Bills moving out of the chamber later in the day. The legislation is expected to be finalized between the two chambers and forwarded to the Governor when the Legislature returns from its Thanksgiving break. Key components of the proposal will provide tens of millions of dollars in support for municipal sewer projects, clean water project financing application assistance, an extension of the municipal brownfield grant and loan program, and continued funding of clean up activities at abandoned brownfield sites statewide.
