This afternoon the Senate Government Operations Committee reported SB 397, a bill amending PA 312. Unlike the House bill that passed earlier in the day this bill does NOT make substantive changes to ability to pay.
The language in SB 397 does not make substantive changes to ability to pay nor does it make it the top factor. The bill also expands PA 312 to authorities. Michigan has 25 fire authorities covering 102 municipalities and 10 emergency services authorities covering 57 municipalities. This bill would expand PA 312 to those 159 communities who currently do not operate under PA 312.
Contact your Senator and ask them to vote NO on SB 397.
