Tuesday afternoon the Senate Restructuring and Reforms Committee passed the Senate's health care proposal, SBs 1046 and 1047, on party lines (Republicans in favor; Democrats opposed).SB 1046 would require a 20% premium share for all public employees. SB 1047 would open up the state health care plan to others including municipal employees. The substitute for SB 1046 does have an opt out for local units of government if they have support of 2/3 of the governing body. These bills are expected to be taken up on the Senate floor in the next few weeks.
