Yes, the Senate Republicans are proclaming 2010 the "Year of the Reform" with a sweeping reform package focusing on several key areas: public employee healthcare reforms, local police and fire reforms, education spending reforms, medicaid spending reforms, government efficiency reforms and compensation reform for public employees.

The local police and fire reforms include reforms to PA 312 and the Urban Cooperation Act which the League has been pushing for years. In addition the healthcare reform requires a 20 percent premium share for public employees or 15 percent if the health care plan includes a wellness program. The compensation reform would cut pay by 5 percent for all public employees. This measure requires a constitutional amendment that the Senate hopes to put on the August 2010 ballot.  It looks like it's going to be an interesting spring to say the least. I expect bills will be introduced tomorrow. Check out the Senate's plan.
