Last week, Senators Hildenbrand and Proos introduced legislation that would allow local governments the ability to move up some of their their tax collections to July. The bills, SBs 322 and 323, would require the local governing body of both the local entity and the county to approve the switch. However, only winter tax bills that total $100 or less could be bumped up to the July levy. The League has long supported one time tax collection as a means to realize more efficiencies. We will continue to push for a streamlined tax collection process by urging legislators to eliminate the cap. In addition, having legislation which addresses any form of this issue should be seen as a positive sign.
