Yesterday the Senate Finance committee passed Senate Bill 77, which make changes to when residents can file a PRE (principal residence exemption). Currently the deadline is May 1st. The original bill would have allowed a proration each day after May 1st. This would have been an administrative nightmare for locals. In committe, however, a substitute was introduced which would just provide one additional date in October, which is much better from our perspective. The department of Treasury is still opposed to the bill, so it's likelihood of becoming law is unclear, but we will be working on this as it makes its way through the process.
