The Senate Finance Committee heard testimony from Alex Rosaen on a report that analyzed Michigan's business tax incentives commissioned by the MI. Edu. and National Edu. associations. Rosaen called the report a first step in spurring the discussion on addressing Michigan's tax structure. In the Q&A afterwards I appreciated Senator Jacobs' comments regarding the importance of knowing if incentives are effective because otherwise the state is taking away from money that would pay for essential local services. Rosaen said they are considering a second, more focused report that would concentrate on the eight incentives that economic development professionals indicate are the most effective.
