LANSING, Michigan - League staff met with Budget Director John Nixon this week.  In fact, Mr. Nixon briefly left a meeting with Governor Snyder to meet with the League staff!

Mr. Nixon was very interested in working with the League on the parts of the budget dealing with local services (especially revenue sharing). While he would not provide any advance information about what the numbers would look like in the budget presentation on February 17th, he did express that he is very aware of revenue sharing and its history and the importance for communities.

He encouraged the League to stay in contact with him and told us that he would like to be as close with the League as his predecessor was (Bob Emerson). We provided him with the League revenue sharing paper, a graph on revenue sharing, and information on the importance of economic development tools (Brownfields, MEGA, etc) to communities. We now look forward to the budget presentation and how it will affect communities.

Andy Schor is the Assistant Director of State Affairs for the Michigan Municipal League. Contact him at (517) 908-0300 or by email at
