Members are urged to call Senators Levin and Stabenow and ask them to oppose U.S. Senate Leader Harry Reid's amendment to a supplemental appropriations bill, HR 4899, that would insert language to establish a federal "312" law and force municipalities around the country to enter into collective bargaining agreements with their public safety employees, regardless of state and local laws.
Senator Reid's amendment has reached the floor without a hearing on his actual bill, S. 3194. Tell Senators Levin and Stabenow that this issue is of primary importance to local officials in Michigan and across the country and deserves a hearing so we can be afforded the opportunity to let our federal representatives know why this is bad legislation and an intrusion by the federal government on powers delegated to local and state authorities.
More information on S. 3194 and similar House legislation, HR 413 can be found here.
