One of the things the weekend allows me to do is get caught on up on some reading. This one was no different. Now, the title of this particular entry no doubt reminds people of that time when President George Bush pronunced, "read my lips, no new taxes". But after this weekend's readings, I'm using it to boldly say -- "read my lips, its about talent and place!" This has been a steady mantra from the League and others for the past few years. Groups like Michigan Future have been uttering it since their landmark report in 2006 and other national groups such as CEO's for Cities have shown how great places attract the new gold of the 21st century.. talent. Two pieces I read this weekend, one from Richard Florida in the march 2009 edition of the Atlantic and another on immigration once again prove the two are married.... without great places you can't attract talent and without talent you won't grow your economy. Check 'em out.
