This week, I've joined members of the Michigan Transportation Team (MTT) on this annual trip to Washington, DC to push for fair funding. As you know, Michigan has been a "donor state" for years - meaning that we've been sending more transportation money to the federal government's transportation program than what we receive back. Last year, we were able to increase our rate of return to 92%. This year, we're asking for a 100%.
We met with Congressman Mike Rogers who represents the 8th district. He understands the need for fair funding but just doesn't see how it can be done "in these tough economic times".
Well, when I was here before, I heard that "this just isn't the right time to do these things." And I have to ask, "When is the right time for Michigan's Congressional Delegation to do the right thing for Michigan?" I mean, that's why we elected these folks ... to make the decisions that will benefit Michigan!
Hopefully, our meetings tomorrow will show us that our Congressional delegation has the stuff to represent us well. More forthcoming!
