An article in this morning's Detroit News emphasizes the reasons why the online public notice legislation is critical for our communities. Not only would this represent a significant cost savings for local units of government, but due to the changing nature of how people get their news, these bills are critical for tranparency.

The article shares that weekday circulation for the print versions of the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press has gone down 12.1 percent in the last six months. In contrast, visitors to the Detroit News' website has increased 26.4 percent in the last year.

Americans are changing the way they get their news.  It's time our communities were able to change the way they reach out to constituents so we can reach the maximum number of people.  Contact your legislators and ask them to support the online public notice package (HBs 5845, 5847, 5848, 5853, 5916 and 5917).
