The House officially introduced its online public notice bills Thursday afternoon. House Bills 5845, 5847 and 5848 require a notice to be posted in the city clerk's office as well as one of the following: a city's website, a newspaper's website or on a PEG channel.
There are a number of acts that would need to be amended to get at every public notice requirement, but these bills are the first step in keeping up with the technological changes that affect the way our communities do business. They are also a cost savings measure that will allow communities to invest in priorities like public safety and infrastructure instead of costly newspaper notices.
People get their news differently than they did even a few years ago, so the time is right to let our communities move into the 21st century with thier notice requirements.
