Ah House Biggby. The office away from my office. Some days I feel like I live there, and it's often the most productive place for me to be.  I had a meeting first thing this morning about PEG (public, education and government channel) issues.  The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) will be issuing a report the first part of next week to analyze the success (or dare I say failure) of PA 480, the video franchising law passed in December 2006.  We'll be sending something out about the report as soon as I get a chance to read it, but I'm not optimistic that it will tell the true story of how this law has affected communities and important issues like PEG channels.  After my very productive meeting, I ran into another lobbyist who was hoping to touch base with me about corrections reform.  Corrections reform is all the rage in Lansing as we're in a budget situation that makes 2007 look like a surplus.  I was on a conference call yesterday on the issue, and I'm disappointed that the focus seems to be on just saving money, not protecting public safety.  The impromptu meeting discussed how we need to look at corrections reforms but keep public safety as the most important consideration.  It's not quite 10 a.m., and I've had several important meetings already thanks to the busyness and convenience of Biggby. Plus the caffeine buzz should get me through to lunch.
