The House of Representatives has passed a package of bills that would create economic development incentives for airports and other multi-modal hubs of transportation.  According to the “Next Michigan” legislation, five zones would be created that are made up of a conglomeration of communities or large urban areas.  These zones could offer businesses that rely on transportation (airport, rail, shipping, cargo, etc) certain incentives that will attract them to Michigan and create jobs while maximizing Michigan assets such as Detroit Metro Airport.  Concerns raised by the League were all addressed in the House-passed versions, and the League will continue to work with the sponsors to craft positive legislation for Michigan moving forward.
