While the mid-term elections are clearly taking up much of congressional time these days, there are a few things still on the docket being done.  So this week, action is expected on some items.

Given that the federal fiscal year begins October 1, a continuing resolution funding the federal government should be adopted.  Also to be done is passage of a small business package, H.R. 5297, that, among other things, would provide a $30 billion fund designed to help community banks make loans to small businesses.  The legislation has cleared the Senate, the House is expected to pass it this week and the President sign it as soon as it reaches his desk.

A post-election lame duck session has been announced for the Senate beginning November 15th and a similar session is predicted for the House. At the very least, budget resolutions will need to be completed before year's end. Of course if the House flips from Democrat to Republican look for a whole new ballgame.
