The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that Michigan will receive more than $32 million in Recovery Act funding to support energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Under DOE's State Energy Program (SEP), states such as Michigan proposed statewide plans that prioritize energy savings, create or retain jobs, increase the use of renewable energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Michigan had asked for $82 million. This initiative is separate from Recovery Act funds that will be received for projects under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program (EECBG). That allocation is not expected until later this summer.
