Additional broadband funding has been announced that will provide rural residents in Michiga with enhanced access. The Michigan awards are part of 43 new broadband infrastructure projects.
The 13 counties of the Great Lakes Bay Region and the Thumb will be offered last-mile broadband services through a $64.2 million award, (matched by $10,2 million in private contributions) to Air Advantage. Nearly 700,000 people reportedly will be benefit including 21,000 businesses and 4,000 community institutions. The company estimates that 142 jobs will be created upfront, with the award providing a basis for future growth.
In the Upper Peninsula, the Eastern Upper Peninsula ISD was awarded $3.2 million to spur broadband adoption among economically disadvantaged students by providing 3,500 computers and supporting software.
