U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has announced that Michigan will receive over $46 million toward public transportation projects throughout the state. The announcement is part of $928.5 million in federal funds for more than 300 such projects across the country.

The grants are being available through Federal Transit Administrations fiscal year 2011 funds and will go toward replacing or refurbishing aging buses, building or improving bus terminals, garages and other transit facilities, manufacturing new clean-fuel buses and assist communities in planning for future transit needs.

LaHood made the announcement in Detroit where he noted that investing in America's transit systems, rails, roads, ports, and airports will help to put people back to work and rebuild our nations' transportation system.
