Chatham Telephone Company, based in the Upper Peninsula, has received $8.6 million to bring high speed DSL broadband service to remote, unserved businesses and households within the territory it serves. Announced yesterday by the Vice-President, the monies are part of the first round of winners of broadband funding through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). The balance of the first round will be announced on a rolling schedule between now and February, according to the feds. The money will roll out to the recipients over the next 75 days.
