Today the third legislative work group on medical marihuana was hosted by Rep. Fred Durhal (D-Detroit). The work group brings together various interests including local units of government, law enforcement, state departments, medical marihuana patients and others.
The group is exploring legislative chanages to the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act which passed by voter initiative in 2008. Communities have been struggling to handle and enforce the Act.
Rep. Durhal is hopeful to get something done in the lame duck session before December 31. However, with only 9 scheduled session days left, it will be difficult to finish changes to the law before the end of the year.
