Communities in mid-michigan and around the state are
moving forward with plans to become more walker and biker friendly through a program known as
"Complete Streets". Eleven states have also enacted "complete street" laws ensuring that transportation engineers consistently design and operate the entire roadway with
all users in mind - including bicyclists, public transportation vehicles and riders, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities. Making downtowns and neighborhoods accessible to all forms of transportation, including biking and walking, is an important asset in becoming a vibrant community and is part of the
League's Center for 21st Century Communities program.
