Today the Michigan House of Representatives passed a series of bills that would guarantee a portion of any increases in sales tax revenues go to fund the Pure Michigan campaign. Since this would redirect funds that would otherwise go toward statutory revenue sharing, the MML opposed this legislation. In a compromise, Rep. Barnett worked with the League to score a victory by amending the legislation to state that after that proportion of increase meets their cap of $40 million any increase above that threshold will now go toward statutory revenue sharing rather than lapse to the general fund. The package of bills (HBs 5018, 5088 and 5089) passed overwhelmingly.
