The Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan has released their latest survey of local officials across the state offering mixed views from local officials regarding public sector employee unions.
To no surprise, 98% of the largest jurisdictions have employee unions, these being mainly cities. And, while 40% of those with unions believe they have been a liability to their jurisdictions' overall fiscal performance, 60% say the relationship with their unions has been good or excellent over the last 12 months.
The MPPS is conduction by CLOSUP in partnership with the League, Michigan Association of Counties and Michigan Townships Association. The survey is conducted twice a year on a variety of topics of importance to local governments. For more information visit the CLOSUP website.
