The Senate yesterday passed a number of bills intended to assist local units of government.
The Senate passed the final two bills in the Transit Oriented Development bill package. The bills – SB 1233 and SB 1236 – will insert transit and transit-facility definitions in the Brownfield act and the Commercial Redevelopment act. The Senate now has passed all of the Senate-originated bills in this bill package, and the House has passed all the House-originated bill. After the election, it is expected that each chamber will approve the bills passed by the other chamber and the entire package will go to the Governor for her approval. The League has worked closely with Senator Jason Allen and Representative Marie Donigan on these bills, and looks forward to this package being enacted into law.
The Senate also passed the final bills in the Elder Friendly Communities bill package. SB 1327 allows DDA’s to create, operate, and fund incentives and loan programs to promote senior-friendly communities. SB 1331 and 1332 add senior-related criteria into the state Planning and Zoning acts.
