While League staff has been busy with several workgroups and other meetings with legislators this week, official House and Senate floor action and committees will not begin until next week.  The Constitutional first day of session is Wednesday, January 13th and the House and Senate (as well as their committees) will resume then.  A few issues of importance we are expecting them to discuss right out of the gate are the Speaker’s heath care proposal, increasing tipping fees for trash, and allowing locals to refinance certain nonvoted bonds in order to avoid potential problems with reduced revenues in the down economy.   It's also important to mention that the Governor’s State of the State speech is scheduled for Wednesday, February 3, 2010.
