Tomorrow (Feb. 17, 2010) we expect a six bill package to be introduced that allow public notices to be published online. Representative Geiss (D-Taylor) has taken the lead on this package that would require public notices to be published in the city clerk's office as well as one of the following: the city's website, a newspaper's website or a public, education and government (PEG) channel. As newspapers continue to struggle and stop publishing across Michigan, local units of government are looking for ways to preserve public notice and ensure that they reach a wide audience. In addition, these bills are a huge step in government efficiency and will be a significant cost savings to local units of government.
