Last week the Senate Restructuring and Reforms committee held testimony on the Senate's health care proposal that would require a 20 percent premium share for health care. The League has not taken a position on this legislation as we continue to be involved with the Majority Leader's office in working out details.
The latest substitute would allow a local unit of government to opt out of this requirement with a 2/3 vote of its governing body. We think this proposal is heading in the right direction of recognizing local control and those communities whose employees have already made sacrifices in other ways like higher deductibles and wage freezes.
At the end of the day the League wants to ensure our members to have access to the most cost effective health care options.
