The League urged its ideas on taxation and local government reform on the House Tax Policy Committee yesterday calling for a change in the tax structure. Committee members were left knowing Michigan does not loose to thriving states for reasons of taxes or regulations, but because unlike those states, we do not invest in the amenities today's citizens want– things like public transit, cultural economic development and a supportive climate for entrepreneurs. We also made clear that it's not the economy holding communities back, it's the state's tax structure itself and our lack of control over expenditures such as under PA 312.
