So after the craziness of the last few days in Lansing, I feel compelled to blog about something other than cable or cancer presumption! It seems these last few weeks that there is a disconnect between bills and/or joint resolutions passed by the legislature and the impact of their actions on local communities.  All of our legislators live, work and raise their families in Michigan. They want to have parks where they can take their kids to play, streets without potholes, police officers that respond in a timely manner and downtowns where they can enjoy restaurants and other amenities.  So I'm baffled when legislation like SJR H, the property tax supercap, and the cable dispute resolution bill are passed.  These are both issues that would take money directly away from improvements that Michigan's communities need to be make in order to play an active role of the new economy.  Yes, Michigan is struggling. But passing legislation that hits hard at the local level is definitely not the solution to our problems.
