People get their news differently today than they did even a few years ago. Although we hear from the Press Association that newspapers are alive and well, cutbacks at papers like the
Ann Arbor News and other papers in Michigan tell a different story. It is the right time to allow public notices to be published online. The Press Association contends that newspapers are easy and accessible records, but again, people get their news differently. When yesterday's paper is somewhere in the recycling bin, you could pull up a legal notice published yesterday online. These days the Internet is as permanent as newspapers. The Detroit News published
an article today highlighting the struggles the City of Birmingham is having now that the
Birmingham Observer & Eccentric will stop publishing on May 31. It's definitely the right time for these changes.
