We had a good week in Lansing not only from a legislative perspective as already mentioned (see "Score One for the Good Guys"), but also from a public policy aspect as well.  Just before League CEO Dan Gilmartin gave our "Prosperity Agenda" presentation before the House Commerce Committee, i had the opportunity to sit in on the New Economy Committee meeting where Bill Rustem from Public Sector Consultants and Soji Adelaja from the Land Policy Institute were reporting on the findings of a new study to be released in a few weeks.  And lo and behold, if the importance of "place" wasn't prominently mentioned time and again in the presentation.  As a matter of fact the title of the report will be, "Placemaking for Prosperity in the New Economy".  Many of the reported findings are identical to those we have uncovered during the past year of public policy forums and research.  This includes how young knowledge workers and empty nesters are looking for vibrant places to live and work in and how elements like green infrastructure and immigrant popoluations help to spur economic growth.  When third party's continue to validate our own strategy of calling for investing in place, I know we are headed in the right direction as an organization for our members and the state as a whole.
