With a federal shutdown averted for now, congressional leaders and the Obama administration continue to try to reach a compromise on spending for the remainder of 2011.
Recall that the House has already adopted H.R. 1, which cuts spending by an additional $61 billion for this year alone. Included in those cuts is a loss of $273.8 million for Michigan in reductions to the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and funding for transportation projects (click on document below). H.R. 1 also cuts the CDBG program by 62% for the remainder of the year.
It is imperative that local offiicals contact their congressional members and Senators Levin and Stabenow over the next two weeks to emphasize the importance of these and other community based programs to maintaining a high quaility of life in our communtiies.
Key League staff and offiicials from across the state will be traveling to Washington the week of March 14th to visit with members of Michigan's Congressional delegation directly. Your direct contact can make a difference as they make decisions on federal funding.
