The House Urban Policy Committee will be taking up HB 6167 on July 21st, when the Legisalture returns to session.  The legislation would require the owner of an abandoned commercial property to retain, at the owner's expense, a private security guard agency to protect the property against vandalism, trespass, and illegal activity on the premises. It is unclear if this legislation is being taken up for testimony only or for a vote.  The League has received some positive feedback and some negative feedback on this, and I welcome all comments and opinions from League members before the committee meets.  You can email me at aschor@mml.org.
