The House Commerce Committee today took testimony on a package of bills that would require any tax dollars go to Michigan companies first. For locals, this means Brownfields, OPRA abatements, renaissance zones, MEGAs, PA 198 Industrial Facilities Tax abatements, Industrial Development Revenue Bonds, and dollars that the state gives out. Rep. Fred Miller (D-Mt Clemens) testified on the importance of getting dollars back into the hands of Michigan employees and employers. Some had issues with these bills and claimed that they will increase costs.
The House last year amended these bills to satisfy concerns from the League, and we do not have an official position at this time. We will continue to track this legislation. If you want to review the bills and send me comments, they are always welcome. The acts above are hyperlinked to the bills. The bills are expected to be voted on this coming Tuesday.
