Today I participated with the leaders of the City of Inkster in fighting for legislation to ensure health and safety of residents allow local units of government to create inspection programs for mobile/manufactured homes.  Sponsored by Rep. Constan (D-Dearborn Heights), the bill would allow locals to create programs and regulate and inspect mobile homes (like they can with rental propertoes).  An amendment was also going to be offered to ensure that this trumps the Mobile Home Commission.  The industry, as expected, objected.  They didn’t like the local control, said the locals will expand their authority beyond safety inspections, and said that the state should do the inspections.  The bill will be considered and likely passed through committee next week. Thanks, Rep. Constan for fighting for your community and for all communities to ensure proper inspections for residents of Michigan!
