After several days of a one-man filibuster, Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky finally relented, and allowed legislation to move forward that restores federal transportaton funding for state and local projects. Of course the fix is only another 30-day short term extension, and the issue of extending the act until Congress can decide on a longer term proposal is still up in the air.
Local officials from across Michigan, as well as League staff, will be traveling to DC in just a couple of weeks to meet with members of the Michigan Congressional delegation and key administration officials to press the need for a longer term solution to transportation funding.
