Amidst all the chaos over the debt ceiling and competing proposals for transportation funding, a little know fact has slipped everyone's attention... the federal gas tax is set to expire!

That's right, September 30th is the deadline for the 18.4 cents federal gas tax to expire.  It brings in over $100 million a day and while most hill watchers think that at the least, this will be addressed, anything is possible given the acrimony over the debt ceiling and recent FAA authorization.

And it appears there may be reason to worry as anti-tax crusader, Grover Norquist, is calling for an end to the federal gas tax.

Another good reason to be sure to speak with your congressional representatives while their home on August recess!
