With the current federal transportation funding act set to expire this year, discussions in Washington about what a new act should fund and look like are beginning to heat up.  Yesterday, we had the opportunity to join a NLC conference call which featured congressional staff discussing recently introduced legislation by Congressmen Waxman and Markey which would tie transportation funding to climate goals.  Under this legislation, transportation plans would have to support different modes such as biking and walking.  Others are looking to coordinate land use priorities with transportation investments.  Look for this discussion to heat up quickly throughout the spring.  The League will be working with our congressional delegation and advocacy partners to ensure Michigan communities are well represented in these talks.
