DETROIT, Michigan - Farmington Hills City Manager Steve Brock is the new leader of a statewide organization of municipal managers. Brock was named the 2011 President of the Michigan Local Government Management Association during the non-profit organization’s annual winter institute Feb. 1-4 in Detroit. He succeeds 2010 MLGMA President Alan G. Vanderberg, Ottawa County Administrator.
“It’s a very nice honor and a privilege,” said Brock, who was the 2010 president-elect for MLGMA and a member of the group since 1989. “I enjoy serving and giving back to an organization that’s given a lot to me so I’m glad to do it and am looking forward to it.”
Brock came to the City of Farmington Hills as an Assistant to the City Manager in 1989, he became Assistant City Manager in 1993 and was appointed by the city council as City Manager in 1998. He previously served as Northville Township Manager, Village Administrator for Hortonville, Wisconsin, and as an Economic Analyst for the State of Wisconsin. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
Brock said a main goal as MLGMA president is to have the organization work with Michigan’s new Governor Rick Snyder and the state Legislature on budget issues.
“I’m really looking forward to engaging where we’re going as far as the state is concerned with the measures and reductions they have to make in improving our organizations,” Brock said. “So that is a challenge and an opportunity for us form a manager’s perspective to let the governor know and the state Legislature know that there are some things that we can help with in solving problems without them simply cutting things.”
Also during the conference, Wyoming City Manager Curtis L. Holt was named the president-elect and Kalkaska Village Manager Penny Hill was selected as vice-president for MLGMA. Other MLGMA Directors are Christine M. Burns, Cedar Springs; Michael C. Cain, Boyne City; Ryan D. Cotton, Spring Lake; Mitch Deisch, Manistee; Perry Franzoi, Breitung Township; Roger W. Fraser, Ann Arbor; Jennifer Tubbs, Watertown Township; Frank Peterson, Springfield; Clay Pearson, Novi; Gerald J. Richards, Meridian Charter Township; Lauren Wood, Birmingham; and Jon Lynch, Midland.
