The Senate Senior Citizens and Veterans Affairs Committee began taking testimony on a package of bills (SB 1327-1335) that intend to assist in creating more elder-friendly communities.
Months ago, the League testified in front of this committee in regards to what we are doing to assist communities to be more elder-friendly and presented research about the need to have amenities available for seniors in urban areas. This legislation is an attempt by Senators to assist communities in their efforts.
I testified in support of the legislation in general, while asking to continue to work on many of the details of these bills as they move forward. I also mentioned that these new tools are good, but communities also need more funding if they are going to provide amenities like heated sidewalks and other things that were brought up in committee. The committee is expected to continue to work on these bills and take future testimony.
