The Michigan Department of Community Health recently announced that eight Michigan cities in seven counties around the state have been awarded grants to support local complete streets efforts. The money became available through last year's federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and will be distributed through local health departments to assist in the adoption of complete streets ordinances within the winning communities. The cities of Detroit, East Lansing, Flint, Houghton, Jackson, Linden, Marquette, and Saline will each benefit from grants of $12,000 to their local health departments to assist in development of ordinances that will promote road planning that accommodates all forms of transportation, including transit, bicyclists and pedestrians. Please check out the link below for more information on these grants. For more on programs like this, please call our office.
