The series of passenger rail forums that have been scheduled around the state meets again this week for a Thursday event in Grand Rapids that will be hosted by Congressman Vern Ehlers. The Municipal League has partnered with the Michigan By Rail group to promote a statewide discussion on what the public would like to see from passenger rail service in Michigan. These forums have been very successful in drawing members of the public, community leaders, and state and federal elected officials to participate in this discussion and provide input that will be shared with the Michigan Department of Transportation as they develop an official Michigan State Rail Plan. The forum in Grand Rapids on October 14th will be held from 6 to 8 PM at the Rapid Central Station (see the attached flier for details). The group heads to Monroe on October 21st and will meet again in Detroit the following week. Additional forums are scheduled for Kalamazoo, Muskegon and Ann Arbor prior to the end of the year. If you would like to have your community's voice heard on this issue, please try to attend one of the events, or visit the MDOT State Rail Plan website to submit your comments online.
