The Department of Treasury is making available $5 million in grant funding to cities, villages, townships, and counties that elect to combine government operations.

The grants, part of the new Economic Vitality Incentive Program, are meant to offset the costs associated with mergers, inter-local agreements, and cooperative efforts for approved projects that occur on or after October 1, 2011.  Grants can also be used to offset up to 25% of a shared service analysis.

According to information contained in the application packet, applications are due to the Department of Treasury by November 1, 2011.  If all funds have not been awarded in the first round, there may be a second round grant application process.   Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and grants may be awarded prior to the November 1st deadline.

Interested communities can apply using the electronic application form provided by the Department.
