The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently seeking stakeholder input on sanitary sewer overflows and peak flows".

The purpose of gathering stakeholder input was to help EPA determine whether and how to modify the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations as they apply to municipal sanitary sewer collection systems and sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs).

This includes determining whether new requirements are necessary for SSO reporting, recordkeeping and public notification, and whether EPA should expand the requirements to include SSOs that do not result in a discharge to waters of the United States, such as sewage backups into buildings.
