Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) Director Rebecca Humphries gave her budget presentation to the House Appropriations Subcommittee Thursday and made a few, key staffing announcements for the executive structure of the new department. She also said that appointments would be soon forthcoming for the DNRE assistant division chiefs and the remaining three regional directors.
Mark Hoffman, who had been interim director of the Department of History, Arts and Libraries, an agency disbanded by Governor Granholm, is the DNRE's chief of Marketing, Education and Technology Division.
Carol Linteau, former DEQ legislative liaison, was named to head up the Michigan Port Collaborative. Dan Eichinger, the DNR legislative liaison, is policy advisor for the Wildlife Division.
Gary Owen, son of the former Speaker of the House, is the new legislative liaison for the DNRE.
I have attached a pdf file with the most recent executive org chart, with each of the key deputy directors and division make-up. Regional Directors have yet to be named…that will likely occur by June. Following the appointment of these regional directors, the Director announced her intention to pull together Citizen Advisory Councils for each region, based upon the model that the former DNR had utilized. Each region will likely have multiple Advisory Council teams, due to the size of each region.
Please let me know if you have any questions on the DNRE consolidation, staffing/organization or pending budget. I will pass along additional information as it becomes available.
