Yesterday the Senate DeLEG appropriations subcommittee reported a budget that cuts fire protection grants by 15 percent. In the meeting the committe chair, Sen. Mark Jansen (R-Grand Rapids) indicated that he needs local units of government to make their case for the need for fire protection grants.
For those communities who receive this funding it is critical to maintain the level of fire service and equipment needed for the buildings in the community not on the tax rolls.
The bill now goes to before the full Senate appropriations committee.
Contact your legislators in both and ask to maintain funding for fire protection grants as this bill goes through the process. This funding is critical for our communities.
